Mr Pavlos Pavlos Giannakou

University of Surrey

Pavlos is currently in his final year at the University of Surrey pursing a BEng in Mechanical Engineering. He is particularly interested in energy storage and harvesting systems and more specifically in structural supercapacitors and piezoelectric materials.
During the third year of his studies, he has undertaken a 12-month placement with General Electric Aviation working as a Strategic Propulsion Engineering Co-op/Intern in which he also received two ’Above & Beyond’ awards by GE. Pavlos is currently an active member of the Surrey University Racing Technology and Engineering Solutions (SURTES) department, working on the accumulator design of the formula student’s vehicle.  In addition, he is working towards his individual research project with title ‘Piezoelectric-Charging Structural Supercapacitor (PCSS)’. In PCSS project he is studying the energy harvesting potential through random vibrations of a piezoelectric film that is integrated into a multifunctional material. During the first and second years of his studies, Pavlos has obtained 84.5% and 84.3% respectively, placing him in the top 2% of his class. As a result, he has been offered a place in ’Surrey’s Top Achievers Recognised and Supported (STARS)’, a program developed to support high achieving students at University of Surrey.

Lastly, Pavlos is aiming to continue academically in a PhD position.
