Biography

Dr. Stephan Schmid is Head of Department ‘Vehicle Systems and Technology Assessment' at the Institute of Vehicle Concepts at German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Stuttgart, Germany. Together with his team, he works on new vehicle concepts for road and rail with a focus on energy, environment and costs. The vision for his research is to identify technical and economic sound and sustainable pathways for the transport sector.
Dr. Schmid is a member of DLRs ‘Next Generation Car' steering board and he is designated as the National Scientific Delegate of Germany for the Technology Collaboration Programme on ‘Hybrid and Electric Vehicle' (HEV TCP) within the Framework of the International Energy Agency.
Besides, Dr. Schmid had responsibilities for transport research at DLR office in Brussels, contributed to ERTRAC and EGVIA, and was contracted lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein for ’Sustainable Mobility and Vehicle Technologies’.
Dr. Schmid received his diploma degree (Dipl.-Ing.) in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Karlsruhe, and his doctoral degree (Dr.-Ing.) in Engineering from the University of Stuttgart.
